CUMC Annual Charge Conference
Sunday, October 26 @ 4:00pm
At Vincennes First United Methodist Church
Our annual Charge Conference meeting with the Southwest UM District Superintendent, Rev. George Purnell, will be conducted this Sunday, October 26 at 4:00pm at Vincennes First United Methodist Church on Perry Street, along with 25 other UM churches from the SW district. All members of the Administrative Board are expected to attend as the voting representatives for the church, but all church members are invited to attend as well. What is a "Charge Conference"?
It's kind of a funny title. "Charge" refers to each of the appointment locations for clergy. Members of Community United Methodist Church are members of this "charge". Sometimes a "charge" is comprised of more than one church – it may be two or three small churches that are served by the same pastor. Likely the term comes from the sense that the clergy have been "charged" to lead and serve in a particular setting. As Charles Wesley wrote in his great hymn: "A charge to keep I have, a God to glorify!"
As a United Methodist Church, we are called to meet annually with the district superintendent for the purpose of worship and for the approving of the annual CUMC charge conference report, which is a compilation of information from our membership records, along with reports and recommendations presented from some of our committees for approval. It is a time to celebrate the way God has been at work in our church and in our ministry. See you on the 26th!
