Henry Blackaby once said that our role as disciples is not to ask God to join us in our ministry, but to see where God is at work and to join God in God’s ministry. God is clearly at work in the summer camping ministry and inviting us to join in with our prayers and our financial support. The cost to send fifty children and youth to United Methodist summer church camps will be approximately $20,000. Our CUMC Finance Committee has already budgeted $7,000 toward this ministry and the recent fundraising efforts by the youth raised an additional $4,200. To meet our goal, we need to raise an additional $8,800. Consider making a special gift marked “2015 Summer Camp” to help with the cost of this ministry. Many have said that summer camp was the time when they committed their lives to Jesus Christ. What is it worth to introduce one young person to Jesus?

During the summers of 2011 and 2012, one youth from CUMC attended UM summer camp. We “stepped out of the boat” in 2013 and set a challenge for ourselves to provide $200 scholarships (half the cost of a week at summer camp) for 25 youth. That seemed crazy – send 25 kids to camp? But it happened! 25 children and youth registered for summer camp at Camp Indicoso, Camp Rivervale and Epworth Forest. This past summer, the ministry grew again and 29 children and youth plus several of our adults, attending as counselors, participated in summer camp. Let’s join God where God is at work and send 50 children and youth to one of our United Methodist summer camps with CUMC providing full scholarships. We believe this demonstrates both our commitment to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world AND our call to extravagant generosity. What would it mean for our youth to be able to invite a friend to go and then to tell that friend that the church will pay their way? If you need further information concerning camp registration or to make a gift, please contact our Youth Director Jason Collins or  Pastor Cheryl.
